Trends from the Top- What are the League Leaders Doing? A Look to Gameweek 30.

For the FIRST time in Trends from the Top history…read on!

Here we are approaching Gameweek 30 and once again, welcome to another edition of Trends From The Top- What Are The League Leaders Doing? Are there any interesting trends or changes affecting our top players? Let’s take a look.

Who were the most popular players chosen by the top ten for Gameweek 30?

Goalkeepers:  For Gameweek 29 the top ten were divided among three goalkeepers, those being, Foster (50%), Pantilimon (40%) and Lloris (10%).

Please note: Foster is out for a knee injury and expected back April 18th.

Defenders:  This week 12 defenders made the cut for the top 10 fantasy football managers. Terry (2 points) topped the charts with 80% ownership followed by Dawson with 60%, Ivanovic, van Aanholt with 30%, Clyne and Naughton with 20% and Walker, Jagielka, Fonte, Lescott, Jones and Bertrand with 10% ownership a piece.

Midfielders:  8 midfielders were selected by our top ten for Gameweek 29 and both Hazard (2 points) and Silva (2 points) were the top picks coming in at 100% ownership.  60% had Sanchez (2 points) and Eriksen (2 points), 40% Ozil, 20% Puncheon and 10% Mahrez and Cazorla.

Forwards:  This week only 4 forwards made the list. 100% had both Kane (2 points) and Aguero (2 points), 60% Austin (2 points), and 40% Giroud.

In summation, the Must-Haves for top managers for Gameweek 24 were Foster, Terry, Dawson, Hazard, Silva, Sanchez, Eriksen, Kane, Aguero and Austin as they all had an ownership rate of 50% or higher.

Coincidently, if you too had selected these players, you would have noticed that NONE of them scored more than 2 points for gameweek 29!

Who was the #1 Captain Pick for Gameweek 29?

I am somewhat surprised that 70% of the top managers selected Aguero as he has failed to deliver in the pat couple of weeks but when Man City plays Leicester and Burnley, you expect a little bit more out of him. The remaining 3 players selected Giroud, Ozil and Austin.

For the FIRST time in Trends From the Top History…

The top ten fantasy managers performed WORSE than the pool average! Again, I have never seen this in 3 years but the GW 29 average was 38. Our top managers averaged an abysmal 32 points. (-6 points below the average). I am not entirely sure what this means but it is nonetheless quite interesting. And hopefully you too are experiencing a move up in the ranks as the top players in your league make bad calls.

Other interesting facts:

  • England tops the charts and represents 40% of the top players while Singapore takes the top spot. Australia (20%), Serbia, Algeria and Pakistan wrap up the top spots via country.
  • Not too much here but keep in mind the upcoming double gameweek with QPR and Aston Villa.

Best of luck in Gameweek 30!
