Costa selected by 90% of Top Ten Fantasy Football Managers for Gameweek 6

Hello and welcome to our 2nd edition of Trends From The Top- What Are The League Leaders Doing? for the 2014/2015 season. Last week proved to be interesting as the top ten seemed to pick the “correct” captain and this week, the leaders were once again in agreement with their captain choice. Who did they pick? How did your team fare to those on top? Let’s take a look…

Who were the most popular players chosen by the top ten for Gameweek 6?

Goalkeepers:  For Gameweek 6 the top ten were divided among six goalkeepers, those being, Mannone and Forster at 30% ownership, and Heaton, DeGea, Krul and Begovic each at 10%

Defenders:  This week 14 defenders made the cut for the top 10 fantasy football managers. The most popular pick for the week was Bertrand of Southampton as he had a 50% ownership rate.

(If you recall from last week, Clyne of Southampton was the dominant pick amongst defenders. Who is currently the better choice? Answer: Bertrand. First he is a better differential with only 8% ownership compared to Clyne’s 24.6%. Second, he is .2 cheaper and third, he is in better form).

Wisdom, Wilson, Baines and Taylor were the next popular choices as they each had 30% representation followed by van aanholt, Clyne, Ivanovic and Azpillcueta at 20% and Shawcross, Chambers, Alderwelreld, Ward and Osha at 10%.

Midfielders:  9 midfielders were selected by our top ten for Gameweek 6 and Di Maria was the top pick coming in at 100% ownership.  Sterling, Sigurdsson and Fabregas were top picks coming in at 80% followed by Ramsey at 30% ownership, Tadic at 20% and Dyer, Mirallas and Schneiderlin each with 10%.

Forwards:  This week, there was more diversity among forwards as 8 made the list. 90% had Costa, 70% Pelle, 30% Aguero and Welbeck, 20% Rooney and 10% Ulloa, Lukaku and Falcao.

In summation, the Must-Haves for top managers for Gameweek 11 were Bertrand, DiMaria, Sterling, Sigurdsson, Fabregas, Costa, and Pelle as they all had an ownership rate of 50% or higher.

Who was the #1 Captain Pick for Gameweek 6?

If you had captained Costa, you chose wisely as did 90% of the top managers. The remaining player chose more wisely as he selected Pelle.

Other interesting facts:

  • I have a snaking suspicion that, “Laneni,” currently in 1st place may stay on top of the leader board. Keep an eye on him! For the 2010-2011 season he ranked 1674 overall and in 2011-2012 finished 3,128.
  • The current average score for Gameweek 6 among the top 10 was 53.8 points, which was ONLY 15.8 points above the overall average for the week.
  • 50% of the top managers were from England and 10% from USA, Serbia, Malaysia, Ireland and France.

Best of luck in Gameweek 7!
